CONGRATULATION AND COMPLIMENT

 

A.    Definition of Congratulation and Complement

            Congratulation

Congratulation is an expression used to congratulate someone when she/he succeeds in doing something or gets good fortune. (Suatu ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memberi selamat kepada seseorang yang berhasil melakukan sesuatu atau mendapatkan keberuntungan).

Compliment

Compliment is an expression used to appreciate or praise other people. (Pujian adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk memuji orang lain).

 

B.The Use of Congratulation and Complement

Congratulation

            We use congratulation when someone succeeds in doing something or gets achievement. For examples: when she/he gets best score in math lesson, she/he accepted in best university, she/he gets married, etc.

Example :

·         Congratulation on your wedding!

·         I’d like to congratulate you on your graduation!

 Compliment

            We use compliment when someone does her/his best or we realize that there is something precious (different) from her/his.

Example :

·         You really did a good job today!

·         I really like your haircut, nice!
